Children (grades 1-3) will participate in 12 weeks of creative arts activities that will nurture and guide them into the following: poetry, using artist materials, learning about and making art inspired by a featured artist, storytelling, and a culminating celebration. All activities are supported and inspired by the use of art, music, books, and more!
A description of the classes… Fall 2010… Animal Theme…Let the “wild creativity” begin!!
Opening and Closing Rituals – Rituals bring a sense of togetherness, community, and rhythm to our time together. Every session will begin with an Opening Ritual of a snack and getting to know one another. If time allows, we will close with a Closing Ritual to share the process of making art and/or student work.
Poetry – Students will learn how to write acrostic poems related to their favorite animals. In addition, they will learn about shape poems and will make as many as time allows. Students will create their own poetry booklet.
Materials of Art – Torn paper animal collages will be made as well as exploring the use of clay to form a favorite animal.
Storytelling – Warm-up storytelling exercises as well as modeling oral storytelling will get students in the mood for some fun storytelling! They will use plastic animals and other props to create animal adventure stories! Oral stories will be shared with the group.
Featured Artist Study – Eric Carle! This beloved artist inspires so many! We will be making 2 or 3 animals inspired by Eric Carle art.
Culminating Celebration – “A Gallery Event.” We will celebrate the student’s work by having our own Art Gallery Event. Special treats will be provided and each student will have an opportunity to talk about their favorite piece of art they made. They will also receive a special gift.
Each session is 90 minutes long and a snack is provided. At the end of the 12 weeks each child will receive a gift to inspire creativity. The workshop cost is $120.00 + $10.00 materials fee. The $10.00 materials fee is due at registration, with the remainder due by October 21st. Two $60.00 payments may be made as well.
